The main attraction of the festival is the music: rock and metal bands perform in the Grand Square (Piaţa Mare) in the city. However, the ARTmania Festival also features other cultural events, such as visual art exhibitions, film screenings, classical music performances, lectures and workshops. Major bands have performed at the festival, including Nightwish, HIM, Opeth, Amorphis, Anathema, Lacrimosa, Tiamat, My Dying Bride and Within Temptation and the festival is growing every year. In 2007, it reached a new record attendance, with 15,000 people in the Grand Square watching Jethro Tull.

A large number of participants come from other Romanian cities and European countries. The festival has the support of local authorities, with financial support from local and county councils and it is communicated at a large scale in the regional mass media.

The 2010 ARTmania Festival will take place from the 13th to the 15th of August. Both The Sisters of Mercy and Kamelot have been announced as playing on the first day while Serj Tankian and Sirenia have been announced for the second day.
